Installing Python on Linux

Ubuntu Linux

Python 2 and Python 3 comes pre-installed on Linux computers, but again you should go to the Python download page and install the latest version.

To check which version of Python you have installed, open a command prompt (Ctrl + Alt + T) and type:

$ python –version If Python 3 is not installed, you will need to install it with your distribution’s package manager.

On Ubuntu, use APT:

$ sudo apt-get install python3

On SUSE use zypper:

$ sudo zypper install python3

On Red Hat use yum:

$ sudo yum install python
